At Indigo Chic Bags we love to use a large selection of different types of fabric from Aboriginal art, recycled denim, kangaroo leather, suede, leather, cork leather, vinyl 100% cotton.

We have been lucky to have had our product shipped to places like Canada, USA, UK and all over Australia.

Indigo Chic Bags supports and promotes Aboriginal business by sourcing authentic First Nations fabrics. It is important to Indigo Chic Bags that the fabric with Aboriginal art is authentic and the artist is recognized and the artist story is heard.

Aboriginal Art is one of the more ancient traditional arts in the world, going back approximately 50,000 years. In early days, Aboriginals did cave painting, rock painting, and sand or ground painting. The newer generations use acrylic paints on canvas to portray their Dreamtime. These Aboriginal artworks are sought after not only in Australia but worldwide. According to Aboriginal mythology, Dreamtime is the era when the world was dark. There was nothing on earth; the soil was soft. This was when the forefathers sprang up from underneath the soil and started building most of the requirements for their needs and that of future generations. They built mountains, rivers, waterholes, trees, and light gardens.

All items made using Aboriginal fabrics come’s with the artist name and the story related to the art work.

Why Kangaroo Leather?

Designed and made in Australia, Indigo Chic Bags uses 100% sustainably sourced kangaroo leather. Kangaroo leather is the strongest and lightest natural leather available, making it comfortable and exceptionally durable. Kangaroo Leather is:

  • Sustainably & ethically sourced
  • Locally handcrafted
  • Lightweight & comfortable
  • Water, stain & heat resistant
  • Easy to clean

Sustainability

Kangaroos are harvested using the most stringent ethical and environmentally sustainable processes that provide all Australians with superior, pure and ethical products. Kangaroos produce a high quality meat that is primarily used for food, the kangaroo leather is a by-product of the kangaroo meat industry, ensuring nothing is wasted.
As kangaroos are truly free roaming animals, the leather used in Indigo Chic Bags products has its own markings representing the life of the wild animal and making each product unique and individual just like its owner. No two pieces are the same.
